A/M32A-60
64-0001

What you see before you is the first "-60" Generator set in the Air Force inventory. It was delivered and accepted from the Wolverine Diesel Power Company in January of 1964. 64-0001 was the first of the thousands of A/M32A-60, A/M32A-60A, and A/M32A–60B Generator Sets used by the United States Air Force, it’s defense counterparts, and allied nations.

64-0001 has seen service since delivery in 1964. It was modified to a A/M32A-60B in 1983 after nineteen years in service. 64-0001 was again sent to Sacramento ALC DEPOT for overhaul in 1993. A restoration team received permission to restore 64-0001 to its original configuration.

Unfortunately, during the rebuilding process the project was halted. Funding constraints and the DEPOT’s reorganization led to a 4 year standstill for the project. Funding constraints limited Wright-Patterson’s Air Force museum involvement in the restoration project.

This is where the 3 EMS AGE Flight became part of 64-0001’s history. It was during a Gold Flag screening survey at the DEPOT in Sacramento that Msgt Dave Lavalley discovered the unit. The AGE Flight requested to have it transferred here to complete the restoration.

The final product; 64-0001 completely restored from the inside out. It is fully operational and originally configured as it was during its first use on the flightline in 1964. If it had not been for the volunteer efforts of the 3 EMS AGE Flight, 64-0001 would surely have been sent to salvage; loosing a valuable and irreplaceable part AGE’s history. All parts used to restore 64-001 came from the Gold Flag program and A/M32A–60’s destined for salvage.

64-0001 has now been registered with the Historical Department’s at both Elmendorf AFB and Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum. The AGE flight received authorization to maintain 64-0001 as a permanent exhibit with ownership rights belonging to the Air Force museum.
