MSgt Christopher Lee McCarthy, 37, of  623 Foxwood Rd.,  Goldsboro, died Sunday 7 May at  Pitt  Memorial  Hospital,   Greenville.  Chris was born in  Barre, Vermont on 26 August 1968 to Gary Lee McCarthy and the late Dawn (Brown) Farnham,  He graduated from Williamstown  High School  in 1986 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on 3 December 1986.  He served his country for 19 and a half years.

After graduating from Basic Military Training and Technical Training School, MSgt McCarthy was assigned to the 7th Field Maintenance Squadron, Carswell Air Force Base, Texas.  On 27 December 1992 he moved to the 726th Air Control Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.  He moved again on 27 December 1994 to the 8th Maintenance Squadron, Kunsan Air Base, Republicof Korea.  On 25 April 1996 he moved to the 89th Maintenance Squadron (AMC), Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.  On 6 August 2001 he was assigned to the 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina.

Chris was a proud father who was vibrant, outspoken, energetic, fun loving, and outgoing.  He was active in the community and always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was not afraid of any challenges and was a friend to everyone he met.  He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and coworkers in the AGE Community.

MSgt McCarthy’s military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 4 OLC, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 8 OLC, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 OLC, National Defense Service Medal with 1 BSS, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Air Force Oversees Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 3 OLC, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with 1 OLC, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon and the Master Maintenance Badge.

Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Renee McCarthy, sons Christopher and Jacob, and daughters Lauren, Elizabeth and Catherine.  He is also survived by his grandmother Eva Pearl Brown of Barre, Vermont, and his sister Tammy Sue Russell & husband Michael, of Plainfield, Vermont and a stepfather, Douglas Farnham

He was preceded in death by his mother Dawn Brown Farnham, his brother Patrick Thomas McCarthy, and his grandfather, Lawrence Frances Brown Sr.

The Family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, May 12th from 1-3 pm for an open viewing.  Funeral services will begin at 4:30 pm with Chaplin Armstrong officiating.  A potluck dinner following the services will be held at Adamsville Baptist  Church at 1302 N. Berkeley Blvd.Goldsboro.
